So, today I’m going to talk about hurt. Heart-piercing, soul-wrenching hurt. The kind that leaves you grasping for breath and wondering if you’ll ever experience hope for a better day. I mean deep pain; one that has you feeling like a double edged sword has slashed your heart in two; and I mean that in an almost literal sense.

It feels good to claim that sickness, poverty, bereavement, heartbreak or any form of hurt will not be our portion. It’s easy to create this utopia of a perfect world without pain and disappointment. But what happens when you are bed-ridden with disease? When that relationship that you thought was sent from above doesn’t work out the way you thought it would? What do you do when that loved one’s life slips away before you very eyes? Or when you lose your job, or fall out of favor with someone really close to you? What happens when life as you know it suddenly goes downhill?

There are a whole lot of things that I am yet to learn about God, but the one thing I do know is that He is sovereign and in control of every detail of our lives. The Bible says He is “ intimately acquainted with all of our ways ” and He “ knows our coming out and going in .” Now, I find that those are great verses to quote when the world is as it should be. But then, there are days when I go through some sort of trial and I can’t seem to wrap my finger around the fact that God actually saw this coming, and He did not, in His almighty power, stop it.  I mean, we all want to believe that God will always keep us from harm’s way, but what happens when you fall into trial?
