I really enjoyed your review of this. A wizard alone was the first book I’d read with an autistic character that was the hero, let alone one with such an active role.

Jo Niederhoff Jo Niederhoff has been reading fantasy for so long that she sometimes forgets the real world doesn't have dragons. This is slightly disappointing, but she's just as glad that she won't be eaten by giant lizards. To make up for the lack of magic and inexplicable things, she writes fantasy (and the occasional science fiction), some of which she posts on FictionPress as RussetDivinity. Currently she alternates living between her family and college, but considering she's getting a degree in creative writing, she'll likely be with her family for some time after graduation.

I’ve read both the original and the New Millennium edition, and the latter is VERY heavily revised with a more modern understanding of autism. Even a small part of the end was tweaked. By all accounts, the original’s portrayal falls under “dated and actually kind of offensive by modern standards” (very, very unusual for Diane Duane, but culture changes and knowledge improves), and the new edition eliminates all or most of those issues.

IN A LIVING ROOM of a suburban house on Long Island, a wizard sat with a TV remote control in his hand, and an annoyed expression on his face.
