Everyone’s favorite wall-crawler is set for his stateside return in The Amazing Spider-Man 2   – with only two days before release. The blockbuster sequel has already racked-up solid international box office sales, guaranteeing that Sony’s plans for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 , along with Venom and Sinister Six spin-offs , remain a top priority at the studio.

Still, in spite of (arguably) the best Spider-Man action ever depicted on the big screen, many viewers have come out of the superhero sequel feeling as though director Marc Webb produced a film that sacrifices cohesive continuation of Peter Parker’s journey in web-slinging to make room for invasive shared universe set-up (e.g.  Iron Man 2 ). The criticism shouldn’t come as a complete surprise – since fans have long been concerned that three villains and  “ his greatest battle begins ” marketing meant The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was going to be an overstuffed mess.

While I eagerly await the amazing looking Lizard and Mysterio figures Hasbro just announced at SDCC, I thought I’d distract myself with some new figures Hasbro just released recently. And it’s none other than Marvel’s best couple that they can’t seem to stand, Spider-Man and Mary Jane!

I was very happy to get this Toys R Us exclusive 2-pack, even if it Peter is wearing his All-New-All-Different suit, which I’d be fine with if it weren’t for the glowy bits. I understand Hasbro wanting to put him in though, because they probably were worried an action figure of just some non-powered girl wouldn’t sell very well in toy stores, but for me, she was more or less the main reason I bought it.

I figure we’ll get ANAD Spider-Man out of the way first, since it’s just a repainted mold for the most part. This is the Pizza Spider-Man body they’ve been using for awhile, but there is one noticeable change. Instead of just using the normal head, they used the Superior Spider-Man head, which is an interesting choice. It doesn’t look too different, it just means the eyes are more narrow.

Batman's writer Tom King had something to say about the Spider-Marriage to USA Today when talking about a major spoiler regarding this week's Batman.

“Some people are going to think, ‘Oh, my gosh, he’s gone insane, we need to fix him.’ And others will go, ‘He’s gone sane. We finally have a Batman we’ve been looking for,’ ” King said. "Most superheroes, you make them happy and you end conflict - you give Spider-Man a wife and where do you go from there? But Batman’s the opposi … te: You give him happiness and you create conflict, because he’s fundamentally a sad character.”
