One of the great perks from creating a camping trailer business is the chance to create a community of folks with similar interests. Turtleback Trailers is excited about our camp outs, our “Herd of Turtle Gatherings”  These events are for present Turtleback Trailer Owners or for those who are considering becoming part of the “Herd”

We’ll be putting on outings every few months to experience a few nights out under the stars in fabulous locations. At these events we can reconnect with friends, share our exploits from past adventures and have new experiences to create new tales.

If you have a spot that you think would be a great place for a gathering, let us know. We are always wanting to explore for new adventures. Locations at this time are limited to the Southwest United States.

Arriving at Devil’s Marbles late in the afternoon we were lucky to find a small space to squeeze into, this place must be on all grey nomads’ bucket list and had each staked a claim with their colossal caravans. Shortly after setting up, Nieve was accosted at the toilet by the number-one ticket holder of the ‘We love Jesus’ fan club and spent the rest of our (short) stay avoiding salvation.

Our stay at ‘the marbles’ was cut short by fire. Fortunately not of the eternal sort but her Christian friend may have thought it a portend of Nieve’s fiery future! I awoke at 5am and emerged from the tent to see fire on the ridge of the dunes across the road. Fortunately the breeze was blowing the fire away and it was not moving quickly but was still too close for our comfort so we packed quickly and were on the road by 6 o’clock, therefore missing sunrise. On informing our neighbours, one man told us he saw it at 1am before going to bed and was obviously unconcerned. There were no fire crews present and we think they let them burn if no infrastructure is threatened.

We breakfasted in Tennant Creek and then had a long day driving and reached Mt Isa mid afternoon. Having lunch in Cammoweal on the way through, Nieve had her cheese and biscuit unexpectedly plucked from her hand by the talons of a silent and speedy black kite. She still complains bitterly about the loss of her food and of a persistent sore finger resulting from the ambush and has put black kites into the same basket as possums and lace monitors.
